Overview

The Oak & Grain Winnipeg, located inside the Hilton Hotel at 1800 Wellington Ave, offers a sophisticated yet approachable dining experience in the heart of Winnipeg. This restaurant strikes a fine balance between classic comfort food and elevated dishes, making it a versatile spot for travelers, locals, and those simply passing through.

One of the defining draws here is their expertly prepared fried chicken, a dish that has won over many skeptics with its crispy, flavorful crust and tender interior. Complementing this is the beer-battered fish and chips, a timeless offering that captures the essence of pub fare with a refined touch. For those seeking lighter options, the menu also features fresh seafood like seared salmon fillet and Manitoba pickerel, as well as vegetarian-friendly choices such as eggplant parmesan and portobello mushroom dishes.

The Oak & Grain's bar is another highlight, providing a welcoming atmosphere with comfortable seating and carefully curated drinks. Guests appreciate handcrafted cocktails and a thoughtful beer selection, such as the Granville Island Raspberry Ale—a light, fruit-forward brew that pairs well with the lively ambiance. The lounge's design promotes easy conversation without overwhelming noise, making it an ideal pause before a flight or a casual evening out.

Many diners praise the service and food quality, noting that the kitchen consistently delivers well-crafted meals. The classic French onion soup, especially when paired with a sandwich, is frequently recommended for its rich depth of flavor. The bacon club sandwich and Italian flatbread also stand out as satisfying options that blend traditional and contemporary tastes.

Designed with a spacious and inviting interior, The Oak & Grain attracts a varied clientele—from couples seeking a late-night bite to business travelers looking for a comfortable yet refined setting. Despite some early challenges reflected in previous reviews, recent guests highlight an improved consistency and attentiveness from the staff, enhancing the overall dining experience.

For visitors and locals alike, The Oak & Grain Winnipeg offers a solid combination of approachable classics, local ingredients, and a warm atmosphere that complements its convenient hotel location. I was just here killing time while I wait for my family’s arrival at the airport. It wasn’t busy when I got here at around 7:30pm. I sat at the bar and I had a lovely server(Martha)who suggested the Lumpia(Pinoy Spring Rolls) and the Granville Island Raspberry Ale. The Granville Island Raspberry ale was amazing, perfect for the season. It is light, fruity and a good balance of the maltiness and fruitiness. The bar chairs are so comfortable and the music was just right, you don’t have to yell to be able to be heard. I would definitely make it a reason to come a bit earlier when picking up someone at the airport to t enjoy of few bears and grub here at the Oak and Grain. PS: Oh yeah, almost forgot, the lumpia was delish!

Went up for an event; had dinner. Everything was delicious. I had the Atlantic Salmon... Best Salmon I have EVER had. Will absolutely be coming back here, even if just in Winnipeg for the day.

Went there for a late snack with the wife. I got the wings and a Caesar salad, and the wife got the bannock with the soup and the spring rolls. Everything was delicious, and my wife even went as far to say that it was the best tomato soup she ever had. Our server Shiyan was excellent. 5/5, would definitely recommend.

Pro tip: order the fried chicken I was hesitant to go when I saw the review rating. I now regret not finding out about this spot sooner. It had a lovely interior with very comfortable seating. Everything we ordered was delicious. Pro tip2: order a sandwich and add $2 for the full size French onion soup. (It's pricey on the menu, but my friends did agree it did look like a $11 soup.) We did the fried chicken $15, fish and chips $18 and a avocado bacon chicken sandwich $16 with the French onion soup ($2 upcharge). Everything we ordered we loved. I was surprised mostly because of the low rating I saw on Google. The food definitely exceeded our expectations. This restaurant has been through a few changes I was told by my friend. Most of the lower ratings I think are from before. This restaurant is located inside the Hilton Hotel at 1800 Wellington. There is ample parking in the hotel parking lot. I didn't notice any special deals going on. Would love it if they did have something. We did have some minor service issues (they did not ask if we wanted salad or fries and assumed fries), but that was about all. They were exceptionally patient as we were catching up and not ordering right away
